Opening a locked oven door

Yesterday, my landlady called me down to the kitchen where she was in the middle of a cooking frenzy to report that her oven door had mysteriously locked itself when she was turning it on. It’s a fairly nice oven, self cleaning, made by Frigidaire. This was a bit distressing.

First we tried unplugiing and replugging it. No result except for a loud ‘BEEP’ when it was plugged in. I found an info booklet in a pocket on the back, but it was a wiring diagram and had no consumer level directions. So, after randomly pushing buttons over and over for a while I went and googled the model number and unlock door. I found this article, https://www.reference.com/home-garden/cancel-lock-frigidaire-self-cleaning-oven-1a630fb0d265e50#, and tried the suggest technique of holding the oven light switch down while hitting the ‘Clear’ button.

That worked. YAY!
